Could something be causing my camshaft position sensor to fail 3 times?

I just finished replacing my cam position sensor for the third time in the last 50k miles. The first replacement was brand X but the last two were Mopar. I recently replaced the crankshaft position sensor to clear that error code.

The car now shifts perfectly again. The cam sensor appears to be vital for that function. I love his car when it’s working well.

Did i I just have bad luck on parts? Or is there something else causing these sensors to die early?

There is probably something in the engine that cause it to fail! I changed it three time in less than 2 months and I found out that I have some massive sledge in my engine! Taking it apart now to see if I can rebuild it! Thee is probably a problem in your ignition system. This is a good start: https://www.doityourself.com/stry/3-...amshaft-sensor

Good luck with everything!

A short in the wiring could also cause issues.
When you are installing the replacements, do you leave the little cardboard disk on the end of the sensor when installing, or remove it?
The disk is supposed to remain on the sensor during installation, to act as a spacer, so that the sensor has the correct clearance.
If the disk is removed, the sensor goes in to far, and over time gets chewed up and will fail.

The old sensors loooked perfect but didn’t work. They aren’t getting dirty or abraded or chewed up. They’re just failing.

Edit: I didn't see any cardboard disk or spacer on any of the new sensors.

You might think I'm crazy but did you change your alternator? i have an 04 AWD model and lost lights, had a weird acting transmission (where you shift out of park and say be in N and the speedo would jump up to like 50 while the car was standing still) first row lights being just visor, map and glove box were non-existant, and the car just wasnt being itself. i found out that the alternator was putting out an AC wave, screwing with the TCM and the BCM.

if i were you would investigate that.

EDIT: that might be the cause to the parts dying, so if it happens again, try that.
