Installed A/C Compressor in 2005 Pacfica Today (3.5L)
 

Removed and replaced the air condition compressor in a 2005 Pacifica today. Removal was much more involved and time consuming than the factory Chrysler Pacifica shop manual stated, significantly different procedure required.

Things that had to be removed to get at A/C compressor include, but not limited to: Removal of passenger wheel, plastic wheel well liner, 2 splash shields, serpentine drive belt, top bar & plastic cover over radiator, cooling fans assembly, lower radiator hose. The fascia DOES NOT need to be removed, as stated in factory manual. I also removed the passenger side headlight to make things easier to see/get to.

There are 4 bolts holding compressor -> bracket & 4 bolts holding bracket -> engine. I only use 3 bracket bolts when reinstalling compressor (those bolts are huge, bracket is massive; way over-engineered) . Much easier to assemble and much easier for the next guy if compressor needs to come out...

UPDATE 3-APR-2018: A/C still cooling nicely! When i installed compressor, system was topped off w/ PAG 46 lube w/ bright yellow dye. Now I notice the front hose connections to condenser (o-rings) are very oily and bright yellow, looks like I will need to install new o-rings on condenser hose connections...

UPDATE 3-MAY-2018: Replaced the factory front hose to condenser o-rings (2 o-rings, 2 connections); used 4-Seasons brand aftermarket o-ring set for Pacifica. (For easy access, just remove right headlight.) 4-Seasons o-rings looked to fit, but they leaked all freon in 1 month. Called Chrysler dealer, provided VIN, bought 5103428AA gaskets and 68284925AA o-rings, delivered for $60. Looks like leak is now fixed, same Chrysler OEM o-rings can be had on ebay for $5/ea. Important! Need to call Chrysler to get proper o-ring PN (there are several PN's) for your exact VIN!! Being a "close fit" does not seem to work with these condenser o-rings.

UPDATE 7-JUNE-2018: The root cause of the condenser leak was not the 0-rings after-all! It was a very small crack on the header of the condenser intself. Replaced the condenser with a Denso manufactured condenser from RockAuto for ~ $75 delivered. A/C cooling nicely now, outside temps in Houston running 95-98 deg F.
