Location of Bank 1 camshaft postion sensor
2005 Pacifica, 3.5L, OBD code P0340, Bank 1 Camshaft Postion Sensor Circuit. I am under the impression that bank 1 is the rear bank, next to firewall. Okay, so where the heck is is the sensor?!? Am I mis-informed of which is bank 1? I can see the (alleged) bank 2 sensor behind the alternator. I see nothing resembling the bank 2 sensor on the (alleged) bank 1. I have employed flashlight, mirror and snake cam in searching, both above and from underneath the vehicle. I'm aware that there may be other causes for the code, but I'd like to try the easiest (no-co$t) solutions first. Ya, know, like checking for loose connector or cut/broken wire.

only one cam sensor

Okay, my next question is, why am I getting a Bank 1 error code when there is only one sensor on Bank 2? Or, again, is the forward bank not Bank 2? I have checked the connector On the "alleged" Bank 2 sensor and it shows 5 volts. Is the ECM viewing the only sensor as Bank 1? Why is the sky blue?

your looking at a basic scan tool with generic info p340 just means cam sensor circuit failure. the other 340s will be the other codes and then get into the second cam sensor if equip this car only has one. IF you want a diag break down of how to check it out voltage ect using laymans terms get a haynes manual or one comparable.

Turns out it was the water pump. Silly, me! Duh! Timing belt drives water pump. Water pump goes boom. Water pump gear eats teeth off timing belt. Timing belt not in the mood to turn camshaft. Camshaft sensor whines. Computer interprets whining as a problem in the sensor's circuit. Geez, any idiot could have thought of that. Maybe that means I'm not an idiot.
