Need Help
 

I have an 05 Chrysler Pacifica AWD, today the rear passenger wheel stopped turning when in drive. If the car is in reverse it turns fine, once I put it in drive the wheel locks up and just slides. Again this is just on the passenger side.

Before this happened while I was driving I heard some type of clunk from under the car, thought I ran over a big rock and it hit the undercarraige. Then a few miles later the same noise with a slight jerk. I parked the car and that was all she wrote.

Any ideas what the problem may be rear diff, axle?

Sounds almost like your one rear brake is locked-up...

I hope it is that simple. Got through the Sandy with no problems went to pick up my son who was stranded at school and car breaks down.

Well, with 4 wheel Disk Brakes and our wheel rims pretty "open", you should be able to take a quick peek. But I think you will need to get the vehicle off the ground and remove the tire to do a proper inspection to see what is what...

Once off the ground, but before you remove the tire, see if you can spin the wheel in either direction (does it spin freely, or is it tight and unyielding). Then remove the tire and check for obvious signs of a brake lock-up. See if there are real BAD groves sliced into the rotor and/or other signs of brake caliper damage.

What is the overall condition of the complete brake system.

Had a very similar experience with a mini van once. The top caliper bolt came out and allowed the caliper to rotate and contact the inside of the rim completely jamming it for forward motion. Wheel moved freely in reverse. Hope your problem is that simple.

Oh, and did I tell ya who's fault it was that the bolt fell out? DOH!!

The wheel moves freely in reverse, will not move forward. it does appear that the pad is rubbing on the disc.

I am thinking of removing that one brake to see if the tire will spin forward.

Finally was able to get out the Island and have the car looked at. The emergency brake on the rear tire broke apart and jammed the wheel. Cost about $200 to repair everything. Know i need to find gas.
