New Key - Warning Lights all On
 

Had a new key programmed today by a locksmith, who had to get a code from the dealer in order to do so. The key fob works great - starts the car, all the buttons work... but the ABS, Brake, Traction control, and one other warning indicator all stay on after the car is started. The car (2007 Pacifica Touring) seems to run fine.

I stopped in at O"Reilly's and had them check the codes; I don't recall the number, but the test set showed a "Bad Immobilizer Key" error. Had the tech clear the codes, but all the above-mentioned lights came back on shortly after I drove out of the parking lot.

I will take the car back to the locksmith tomorrow to see if he can reprogram the keys (it happens with both new keys - one with the integrated fob, buttons, etc. and one plan key with just the chip).

Any ideas beyond bad key programming?

We did not have these issues with the old key (lost).

the abs and other lights have nothing to do with the lock smith. and o reillys will not have a scanner that will get into that computer. Will need a tech to look into that.

So, are you saying that the ABS, Brake, Traction Control and ESP-BAS lights all being on, immediately after a new key was programmed, is the result of a totally unrelated system failure that coincidentally happened after the new keys were programmed?

The Pacifica was only started once (albeit with the emergency key to ensure it would crank once we had a new, working key - just to prove we didn't have a dead battery and would end up stranded at the locksmith) before having it towed to the locksmith. Previous to needing the new key, these lights were not on at all. The vehicle did sit in the driveway for several weeks without being cranked (save the one time before towing with the emergency key).

With all due respect to the local Chrysler dealership, can any reputable repair shop check these codes and repair the modules if needed? I loath the idea of taking it to the dealer where, no matter what is wrong with the vehicle, it costs over $1,000 - guaranteed.

correct a key programming is a module right behind where the key goes in the ignition the abs module is outside under the cars hood. All the lock smith does it go into teh skim module and put a 4 digit pin in and request to program a new key and thats it.
