Sounds like play in the driveline... If you have a warranty USE IT.

clunk in front end...

Hi, this is a common problem for both FWD and AWD Pacificas.........it is not serious, but is annoying. Unfortunately, the clunk is not easily diagnosed unless someone spends a little time with your car.

I finally got rid of most all of my front end noises, but not before several misses before I finally found my main culprit(s). It was a loose right front strut mount (the three bolts holding this strut apparently were loose, leading to clunks at low speeds.......

Two principles come to mind when tackling these front end clunks/noises.....

1. Have the mechanic go through EVERYTHING suspension related in the front end, and make sure all is torqued to specifications.........before you try anything else.............

2. Have the mechanic examine wear items such as bushings, these seem to wear on Pacificas due to : FWD complexities, heavy weight on the front end, driving styles, etc.....

3. Be prepared for a little "trial and error " on these noises. How much you "trial and error" you are willing to go through depends on how long you plan on keeping the car.

4. Personally, I realized I would take a huge bath on my '04 Pac (original owner) if I just traded it in at 80,000 miles, so I just stayed with it, spent $2000 on items related to front end noises( played out over 3 trips in one year).......I finally am 90 % quiet on the front end, I am happy with my decision............Please note that some of this cost was related to wear items I replaced because I intend to keep the Pac until at least 110,000 miles or 10 years......

Sorry if I went overboard on this post...........

Sincerely,

Brooks Davis

Not sure if you had this repaired but on my 2006 Pac. I had the same problem. It was rather annoying and I thought the front end was going to come loose at one point.
Nonetheless, after getting a $600.00 quote from the dealer, I went into Firestone and they advised me to replace the Front Stabilizer Bar Bushing..
Anyhow havent heard the noise since and it only cost $117.00

Good luck!

Congratulations............money well spent...............I bet people on the sidewalk don't stare at you anymore as you drive by !

Had my bushings (Control arms: 2 each side for both sides) and stabilizer link (both sides )replaced to polyurethane type similar to what I put on my bimmer and everything is OK (No clanks, no more noise). Cost here in the Philippines for those is roughly $200.

sivitec, Congratulations............

That $200 cost is a bargain, then again, I probably make 20 times more than the average worker in the Phillipines, "so it all comes out in the wash," as we say here in Texas............

steelydanfan,

Yup! It's a steal alright. You're also right that you might be getting roughly 10-20 times more than an average employee in the Philippines. Cost of living here is not that high as well.
