Oil for Carrier

I finally got the old carrier out. I drained the old oil, it looked like red transmission fluid. When I pulled the old out, there was regular oil comming out of the back.

Question... How is it that there is red trans fluid I drained and regular brown oil in the back of it???

I'm sure there is only one place to put oil in and drain it from. Therefore all of the oil should be the same color. Makes no sense to me...???

Hi,

If you are talking about the rear carrier of an AWD Pacifica, there are two "sumps" and two different fluids. The more forward is for the overrunning clutch and should be red as it is the ATF+4. The rear is the differential and should have the 75W90 gear oil - working from memory here so double check the specs. One of those sumps, if memory serves is a bolt head, the other a threaded plug that takes a 3/8" drive wratchet head or extension. Two drains, and two fill ports. Quantity on both is just under 1 liter as I recall.

I got that part fixed a couple of hours ago. Now a new problem developed.
