Pacifica Throttle Sticks
 

I have a 2005 Pacifica and my son has a 2004 Pacifica. Both have a problem with the throttle sticking when coming off idle. It only does this when the engine is running. Sometimes it sticks hard enough that you have to forcefully push the accelerator peddle past the "stop." This causes unwanted rapid acceleration!

Any fixes out there?

[:@] That is the same problem I am here looking for. I thought the wife was on drugs until it happened to me. It is kind of scary how hard it is to push. I checked cable routing and did a general inspection of the pedal and the throttle body, nothing looks or feels wrong. I wold love any ideas to get the wife off my back!

Check the throttle butterfly inside the throttlebody. It is most likely gummed up. You can use a good quality t-body cleaner and an old toothbrush to clean the t-body. Then run the engine and spray the cleaner into the t-body.

I had this problem at about 26k the dealer told me that it need a 30k service and to have the throttlebody cleaned. I had the service done and told them I wasn't paying for the throttle to be cleaned because it was unheard of that at 26k it had to be cleaned they tried to charge me and Isaid I wasn't paying for this it should be covered under warrenty.....so they only charged me for the 30kservice.

The throttle sticking problem is a result of deposits from the EGR building up on the back of the Throttle Body butterfly.

Go to any auto supply store and get a spray can of air system cleaner. I use Castle brand, just make sure that it says something like'safe for oxygen sensors'.

It is 10 minutejob to pull off the engine cover, remove the rubber intake boot from the throttle body and clean it all up. You will be surprised howmuch debris you will remove.

You are probably good for about 30K mi between cleanings.

I did the cleaning and it works fine. Now I know to keep up a scheduled cleaning. Thanks for the help!

My 2006 Pacifica is doing the same thing with the gas pedal. Took it to the dealership yesterday and was told "it is an engine problem with the Pacifica that causes carbon to build up on the throttle and for $89.95 we will clean it off". I was shocked because I assumed it would be covered, especially if it is because of an engine issue. I called the NHTSA to report my problem...please do the same. The number is 1-888-327-4236 and it takes about ten minutes. The more complaints they get about this the sooner they will open an investigation.

This is not a problem of the PAC. It happens to all cars w/ thottle bodys or even carbs for that matter.
