Pooling water from precipitation
 

I've noticed a swishing water sound several times while pulling my '07 Pac 4.0 Touring away from a prolonged parked position (ie overnight) when it's been snowing or raining. It sounds more or less like a bucket being emptied.

Anyone else had this experience and already know what container is retaining the precipitation? I'm nervous that accelerated corrosion could be taking place with components suddenly potentially submerged for hours at a time.

I've had the same thing on my '05. It's coming from somewhere under the hood near the firewall on the passenger side. I have looked all over and can't find where the water could be accumulating, but even if I wash the car, I'll get a trail of water on the pavement on the passenger side when I move the car. A couple of times it has seemed to get the accessory belt wet and the power steering will squeal and slip so I'm careful when I first start out.

I can't find any corrosion that it's starting. I have had to replace the engine cradle but I don't think that has anything to do with it.

Have you removed the vented cover from the base of the windshield and checked in there?
The drain holes can become blocked by leaves and other small bits that get in there.

Bilitheaxe has a very good suggestion. On our '04 the cowl vents don't have a screen and small leaves can get down inside. We have found small leaves that were caught by the cabin filter. On ours under the cover on the drivers side there is a very small drain hole with a short tube to drain it out. Please check yours, then over toward the passenger side is a 2-3" opening to drain water down the engine side of the firewall and out of a round box looking thing with a rubber flap, make sure the flap can open. When water enters toward the extreme passenger side we don't know "yet" how it goes down before it can get to the larger opening we mentioned. Maybe someone else knows where it can come out underneath. Ours is parked outside right now waiting on a leak "test" with rain expected later tonight. We hope to soon have some more info on the thread below "Interior water leak" Please let us know. Barbara 2

Thanks for the suggestions. The weather was pleasantly above freezing today. Hope to get a chance to poke around based on your suggestions and give a report back.

Sure hope you found something. Here is a failed attempt to find the source of our "Interior Leak" post that we need to add more info to. We used 3M Exterior painters tape that is sticky but can stay of for several days and remove easily. Barbara 2

For a leak that is getting into the vehicle and soaking the carpets, make sure that the door seals are tightly seated into place.
My old 04 Intrepid had an interior leak that drove me nuts until I noticed that the seal on the passenger side was just barely not fully seated. After I pushed it back into place, the leak was gone for good. The carpet on the passenger side was getting soaked every time that it rained.
Just literally go around the seal pushing it in to make sure that it is all fully seated into place as it should be.
