Rear Subframe/Suspension Rust

Hi All,
I brought my 2004 Pacifica to my mechanic to check out a squeak in the rear suspension and found the rear subframe is rusting away! In fact, the shock mount area is almost completely gone which my mechanic says should not happen in a car this young. I have attached the pictures at:

If anyone has a similar problem, please email me (madesros@gmail.com) or comment on this thread.

Thanks! -Mike :(

Where in the rust belt are you?

Do they have shocks or struts in the rear ?

I live in western Massachusetts and salt on the roads are very heavy. Plus I park my car in a garage where the ice and snow melts and allows the salt to do it's thing. But should I expect what I am getting? There are shocks in the back and struts in the front.
