Default Replaced Gear Shift Assembly...now KEY IS STUCK

This morning my 2007 Pacifica would not shift out of park, I discovered it was the gear shift assembly "the little pink thingy" people sometime refer to. I took the whole console apart and replaced with a piece from dealer and Wah-lah!! My car is now running and shifting great again. BUT...now the key is stuck in the ignition...please someone help! I know others have had the same issue but I didn't find any answers anywhere. Please and thank you!!

The cable that slips into the slot in the pink thing must have full travel forward. I had this problem after putting the whole shifter back together. After a few minutes of panic I noticed that the cotter pin that I used to fix the pink thing had bent slightly during assembly. It was preventing full travel forward. I was able to re-bend the cotter pin with a screw driver and then the key would turn to the lock position. Look for something that is not allowing full travel. You can pop the white plastic part that the cable runs through out and it will allow the key to unlock.
