Service Tire System Soon message
 

04 Pacifica. For about 6 months we have been driving around with the 'Service Tire System Soon' message on the menu panel running. The tires are about 1.5 old. The pressure is fine. Nothing I have tried gets the message go away. I tried to use a magnet to 'reset the tire sensors' but it did not work. I don't get the horn chirping. I don't have the 'special tool 8821' that supposedly came with the car and was kept with the spare.

Are there any tips on this?

Seamaster, first a few questions. 1) Does your spare have a sensor ? 2) Did your compass work ok before the TPMS problem ? 3) Does your EVIC panel work ok so that you can go thru the menu to get to "Retrain Tire Sensors" 4) Do you have the correct procedure ? 1) How do I know if the spare has a sensor? (I guess, what does the sensor look like?)

2) The compass worked fine.

3) Yes, I can get to the retrain tire sensor step

4) I do believe I have the correct procedure...left front first. I get to the 'now training left front sensor step. I am simply holding magnet (regular decent strength magnet I got at autozone) over the valve and hoping for a horn chirp.

Thanks Seamaster. Yes the L front, R front, R rear. L rear is the sequence. My husband uses a very strong magnet out of a old microwave. It has a hole large enough in the center of it and he strokes it quickly over the valve stem until the horn blows once then moves to the next wheel. Your horn works ok doesn't ? I'm not trying to be silly. A internal timer limits you to 60 seconds for each wheel or it will abort the process. On ours recently he did it and all wheels passed the test but it would not clear out the STSS flashing. The dealer scan then showed both front wheels sensor batts were low. Expect to replace then next week. Sounds like you are close to the problem but not quite !
Don't understand the other guys mention of a overhead display. Maybe newer models have this ? Thanks. *BW*

Seamaster, sorry but I forgot your question #1. Our spare has a steel wheel and the normal old style black flexible valve stem in it. No sensor in it. Thanks. *BW*

Barbara. Thank you so much for the information. Sounds like we might need new sensors.

Eagerly waiting to see what happens. Dealer is stumped. I am going to change my other two sensors and then I will have (4) new sensors on the car. See if that takes car of it...
