Default ‘04 PT Cruiser transmission and hood question.

My ‘04 Cruiser has about 217K miles on it. Every now and then (primarily in the mornings or when first starting up the car) I’ll back out of the driveway, stop the car to shift in to drive and then the car acts like it’s in neutral, even though it is clearly in drive. So far, it will kick in to gear once I rev the engine a bit for a few seconds. Anyone else have a similar issue?

On a side note: I’m trying to find a replacement grommet for the hood prop. Nowhere seems to have them (everywhere I’ve checked on line and the local auto parts stores). I called the local Chrysler dealer and was told they discontinued that part a while back. I’m open to suggestions on other alternatives.
