2001 PT Cruiser Limited oil pan

I'm buying a 2001 PT Cruiser Limited and took it to have the oil changed last week. The guy at the shop said that the oil plug had at some point been replaced with some sort of compression plug and that he couldn't guarantee that it would hold if he removed and re-used it. I have some questions. 1) if this is the case (a compression plug of some sort) why couldn't he re-use it? 2) can new threads be cut into the existing oil pan (assuming it is done carefully to avoid shavings in the pan) 3) is $400 to replace the oil pan reasonable?
Thanks in advance for any answers. The car's only costing me $400 to start with so I figure even if I invest three times that getting it into shape, I'm still coming out ahead

Replacement oil pan plugs are readily available. There are different designs. Shop around, you may find one you can do yourself or have a friend do for you.

I agree with dcotter0579, I replaced mine recently bought it from a friend. About your Question; Can new threads be cut into the existing oil pan (assuming it is done carefully to avoid shavings in the pan) 3) is $400 to replace the oil pan reasonable?

Yes it is possible, but in my idea replacing it with a used one would be cheaper and safer.
