5 speed shifter has no control

Look in your engine bay near the transmission itself and verify the cable is still properly connected to it. I've had a clutch cable slip off of its shifter fork on the transmission which gave similar symptoms. If you can't feel it go into any gears, possibly your gear shifter cable gave up or something similar? http://www.moparpartsgiant.com/parts...-controls.html

Hello Bob, New member to forum but have a 2001 PT 5 speed. Your problem could be the bushings that control the shift cable under the center console. If you're handy, it's not a major job, pull the seats, center console and replace the OEM bushings. I replaced them at about 50K miles with Bugger Racing Bushings. As you posted in Feb I suspect this is old news but... just in case.

If you go under the car, make VERY sure that you use jack stands, and block the wheels from turning along with making sure that the emergency brake is on.
If you move the wrong thing on the transmission, the car could start to roll if you do not take precautions.
