Camshaft position sensor failures (2006 PTC)

This is my first time posting and I hope someone can help. My granddaughter has a 2006 PT Cruiser that the Cam Position Sensor keeps failing on. Replace it and the car is fine for a month or two before it fails again. The sensor being bad is the only code that the scanner shows except for a gas cap code which no one can figure out because the everything checks fine with the cap, tank and evap system. The problem with the cam position sensor is intermittent and when it acts up the car will run when using slight throttle pedal pressure. Give it gas when it's acting up and the car will stall but can be kept running by feathering the pedal before it stalls. If allowed to stall it won't restart for an hour at least. The problem only shows up when the engine is at running temperature although atmospheric temperature seems to make no difference. I assume the problem has nothing to do with the cold start strategy. If it wasn't for the code I would guess the problem to be with a MAP or MAF sensor or a throttle body problem having to do with a AFR. Nothing shows up with a Power Probe to suggest an electrical problem with the sensor but I can't say I know everything to look for with the probe. What I know has come from comparing old sensors with new. I'd appreciate any suggestions from anyone who has experienced similar problems.
