Starter wiring?

Anyone know what the #4 wire is for? It is a green 10ga that says fusible link. I am asking because I have intermittent starting issues.

If not mistaken, #4 sends power to fuse panel. # 3 wire is your power from key to actuate the starter solenoid.
What exactly is an intermittent starting issue?
(1) turn key no crank
(2) turn key starter cranks but no engine run

Thank you for your reply Rebel59,
One site said it ran to the alternator but I could not see the point in that.
Anyway the starting issue is very intermittent, most of the time a couple of cranks it fires right up but now and again it will just click, click, click like the solenoid, throw jumper cables at it and starts. Starter is brand new, battery is two months old, alternator charging to 14 volts, It is not an everyday driver so it might sit one day or several and decide not to start.

A couple things you can check
1 clean and tight battery connections
2 check #3 wire connector loose/corroded inside the plastic end to push onto starter solenoid
3 check for smooth operation of gearshift for pak/neutral safety position. The selector shaft out on the trans like to bind up at bushing into the trans, and could misalign for safety switch operation. Spray a penetrating oil on it were the selector rod/shaft enters the trans.
4 Have the battery load tested for avail amps. it can also reveal a weak cell. I know it is relatively new...but with much sitting between uses, anything is possible.

Thank you, I will certainly try that.

If it's intermittent, it is not a problem with a fusible link. It's like a fuse. Either it works or it doesn't. There's no in between.

Thank you, I get that, it just bugged me because it was green and I did not know where the voltage was going. Sorry for the long reply, been busy and have not returned to the PT yet.

did you have any check engine light codes before you undid the battery?

Can someone tell me where the number 3 wire goes? My daughters PT has a starter issue and I jumped the starter it but had to do it again and smelled wire burning over by the passengers side up by the head light now the starter won’t even click think the wire burnt was wondering where it goes tohttps://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.chr...1c1cc34c24.jpg
