2.8 crd 2007 grand voyager EGR

my engine light comes on and code reads p0403. excessive EGR gas. The valve looks newish but I noticed recently that the EGR vacuum solenoid had one of its vacuum ports snapped off and glued back on. It had come loose again. Would this cause the 0403 engine code. I have just taken it out, cleaned old glue off and glued it back on. It seems solid enough and light has stayed off for now. But if it comes back on, should I try replacing the vacuum solenoid? or something else altogether. is there a way to test the vacuum solenoid? thanks

It looks like you've solved the problem yourself. I take it car power is ok and there's no other driving problems like cutting out under power. This gluing repair is only good if it is done properly by cleaning parts and prepping them before joining together. To me its only a temporary job and I would be getting a replacement part due to what everything has to put up with in an engine compartment.

ok, so my light came on again... it tends to happen when under heavy load going up a hill. I can almost predict at what point the light will come on? Is there any way to test individual components? like egr valve, solenoid or anything else? The car has done 260k miles so its no surprise its starting to fail but would be good to know what to check to fix it.

If you take a hunt on Ebay you can find a genuine EGR valve for 160 notes! I had it saved a while back but not anymore! I would buy a new one and run Shell V-Power in the tank and BG244.

I will try and find you a number fir the UK importer of Chrysler gear! Doing kids dinner atm. Oh what joy! Lol

This is one of the crucial times when the EGR has to operate, under load. the time when emissions come second.

You can test the individual components by using a vacuum gauge to monitor the vacuum to/from the solenoids, a vacuum pump to operate the EGR valve.

But an 0403 is an electrical fault with the EGR solenoid, not a gas volume related one.

Fault procedure can be found here
