2000 Town & Country - How to remove alternator?
Sorry, I don't know much about cars. We are trying to remove the alternator from our 2000 Town & Country, but there is a nut that we can't get to on the other end of the bolt. I have looked all over the place for a solution to this but everything I have found says that you should be able to just use a socket wrench to get the bolt out, and no one seems to mention the possibility of a nut on the other end.
I did find one other post on here that mentioned what may be a similar problem with a Sebring, and the response to him was to jack the car up and go at it underneath. Will we have to do this with the Town & Country, and if so, could someone give me a few more details? We have it out in the driveway now, with the belt removed and the bolt loosened as far as possible and we are stuck, so this is kind of an emergency. Please help. |
(My 2nd try at posting this.)
While I was posting the first question, they managed to get the nut & bolt out, but the alternator still won't come out. It doesn't seem to fit. Any ideas? |

Thank you. In the time following my question and the answer, they did get it out; but somehow the neighbor managed to break the fuel line, too  ; don't ask me how.
I didn't know they had this on the Chrysler web site. Now I know where to look.

It has 3 bolts. There is one kinda hiding up under the front middle. It won't just fall out when you get the bolts out. It will take some prying and wiggling. There is a spacer that takes up slack when the long bolt is tightened. I get it out from the engine compartment by removing the cooling fan to get enough room.

Actually I just did a quick copy/paste from their tech site. I only have access because our fleet techs are authorized to do warranty work. |
