Default 2001 T+C P0740 code

2001 T+C w 119k miles just showed the P0740 code. Runs fine but unfortunately needs it's emissions inspection today. Conflicting info as to whether a full rebuild or just a new torque converter is need. In any case it sounds like the transmission has to come out if we are ever to pass emissions... Any insight would be helpful.

740 yes will need atleast a new converter if that converter has come apart rebuild and what ever else has been clogged up by the converter.

I just had the same code come up recently with my 2002 T&C with only 78,000 miles. Ended up having the entire transmission rebuilt due to metal shavings from the torque convertor clutch. Also had a new water pump installed because mine was leaking.

All told I spent just under $1200, and I was lucky enough to find a ex-Dodge dealership mechanic that started up his own business. He told me he repairs Dodge & Chrysler transmissions constantly and he runs a pretty good business doing so.

With only 119k miles you might want to consider just doing the rebuild and driving for another 50k miles. Still cheaper than a new car payment.
