2001 T&C shuts down when it warms up

I have T&C that idles erratic was it warms up and when the temp. needle reaches the 1/2 mark it shuts down, I need some ideas, also the fan does not come on, it came on until today. I changed the water pump and thermostat. 3 days ago. Also when this happens the van looses power, If i am driving, it shuts down. Any help will be appreciated. I love my van. thanks

what are the codes in the computer?

Spiceman 05-11-2012 07:59 AM

No codes

There are no codes. It was loosing power while driving, was changing gears in a violent manner and threw a P1391, But I have since replaced the Crankshaft sensor and camshaft position sensors and that went away. Now when ever it is cold, I can drive it until it warms up and it shuts down if I am driving or if idling it will do so until it becomes warm then behaves erratic with the rpm needle all over the meter and then shut down.

When it shuts down are you loosing spark, fuel, or both?

Spiceman 05-11-2012 04:51 PM

Nope, none of the above is lost however i just started it and found a code P0353, so I am going to replace the ignition coil and see if that works.

Here is another thing i noticed with the T&C , it now idles rough when cold, but i only changed the plugs and plug wires a last week, the plugs are not fouled, so I am thinking, is it the CPK or CPM acting up again and not throwing any codes. The p1193 disappeared but I am still going to change it. I read somewhere that they sometimes do not throw any codes.

Correction, I meant the p0353 disappeared.

Spiceman 05-11-2012 10:27 PM

Question. Could a faulty CPK or CMP sensor cause those symptoms???

When it gets warmed up and shuts down, have a meter handy and check the voltage at the larger red cable where it connects to the IPM...NOT at the battery. Then check it AT the battery posts and compare.
