2001 TC multi zone AC problem

Hi all,
I have a 2001 Town & Country with the 3.8L. Recently the air conditioning for the driver side front does not blow cold air, the passenger side front is moderately cold, and the rear compartment seems to be cold.
Could there be something wrong with the ATC system or do I just need a recharge?

Thank you,
-Jared

Warm air on the driver's side is a typical Low Freon problem. If you are lucky it will just need more R134.

Thanks for the great info. Is there a way to check for a leak besides using the dye? And if there is a crack, is there a cheap way to fix it (like JB weld or something). Also, when you say left side, are you refering to the driver side?

Thanks,

More possible information about problem.
I dont know if this is normal or not, but when you turn the AC off I can hear a hissing noise coming from the center vents(like the sound water pipes make when the water is on). The sound lasts for ~5seconds. It may even make the noise when turned on, but hard to tell with the sound of the air blowing.
I did add more R134a to the system since it was a bit low. My gauge now reads about 35 psi @95*F outside. Doesn't appear to be getting cold yet, but possibly better than it was before the recharge.

Undo the fasteners along the front of the van under the hood that hold the from bumper cover on. You will also need to remove the plastic screws that hold the bumper cover on at the wheel wells. pivot the bumper cover (darn near the whole front of the van) out and then down to gain access to the condensor. My guess is that you will see an residue along the botton of coolant lube where it has leaked out and stuck to the condensor.

RE: 2001 TC multi zone AC problem

Hi,

I have the exact same symptoms on my 2001 T&C Limited. I thought it was low refrig but I checked and charged it. Since then, I've found that it is an intermittant problem. Somtimes while dirving it will just start blowing ICE cold air from driver and pass. Rear is always cold. Matters not what setting, auto, manual, recirc, fresh. It is either in this funky mode of warm driver/cool passenger/cold rear or really darn cold from both driver and pass. I can increase the temperature to hot equally on both sides, but on "LO" the front temperature only goes down to warm/cool while "malfunctioning" or if working properly will go all the way to ICE cold for both. It doesn't seem to cycle back and forth while driving. I have had it stay ICE cold over a period of days, but sometimes it feels like a daily dice roll. The last two days have been 100 degrees and of course NOT ICY. PLEASE HELP! Thanks, Mike S.
