2002 grand vouager abs light

why does my abs light come on when its raining, i have had a diagnostic ran but shows no error codes what can be the problem????

CHRYSLER TECH 07-15-2010 10:34 PM

u need an abs scanner not a cheap scanner that auto zone or place like that uses.

gadgetman 07-19-2010 12:02 PM

had abs scan done shows no error codes and no codes in memory?

CHRYSLER TECH 07-19-2010 10:35 PM

where did u go to get it scanned?

gadgetman 07-20-2010 04:37 AM

had abs scan and full system scan (1 error code p2229 )done by dodge dealer who said that there is no problem but suggested i buy new "speed sensors" @ £175 just in case

gadgetman 07-21-2010 04:22 AM

hooray!! finaly got the abs problem sorted out...... didn't need new sensors ,didn't need any expensive work done... took car to brake specialist... he took one look at brakes and told me exactly what the problem was. problem 1 speed sensors were dirty and needed a wipe problem 2 speed cog on back of wheel hub was in need of a good clean as some of the teeth were blocked and needed to be unblocked for sensor to read it.... after doing theese the abs light no longer comes on even when going through a stream of water... so if a brake garage can tell all of this just by looking why is it that i've been wasting money on scans when all anyone with knowledge has to do is look... i hope this helps anyone else and saves them money too... thanks for all the help out there it was appreacheted

Ours came on and it failed the MOT on it. Used a pressure washer and washed all round the rear of the wheels. Next morning it was out and it's never been on since.

Dirty speed sensors, huh? Why did your ABS only come on when it was raining then? Did he happen to explain that to you?

gadgetman 07-23-2010 03:41 AM

i reply to TNtech quiery the answer was that the water was raising the dirt up in the gaps in the teeth so the sensor was reading it as a blocked sensor but as the water dried up the blockage went down but as the dirt/crap was solid/stuch in the teeth it wouldnt just fall out. thus that is why had to use wire brush and end of screwdriver to remove it.

OK, I see. I wasn't understanding your posts. I do now.
