Default 2004 Chrysler Voyager suspension knock

I have a 2004 Chrysler Voyager 2.5CRD.
For over 6 months i have had a knock/clonk from the o/s/f.
The noise happens on any road service and sounds like it is coming from the top strut mount.
I have had 3 garages look at it and nobody seems to know what it is.
I think personally that it is the top strut mount that needs replacing?
Recently, if the car is stationary and i start to reverse, i will get a crack from that same area and also if i drop off a small kerb i get the same crack.
Just concerned that this is now something dangerous but do not really want to be throwing money at parts without knowing it will fix it.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Go to Search, type in Front suspension strut Voyager and you'll get p44cmb account of Front suspension Woes. Travelmad & tfb kindly helped here.
I was going to mention all the suspension parts that clunk like Antiroll Bar rubbers, Links and Control arm mounts/ball joints but these are easy checks that your three garages should have found. I take it they checked car underneath with testing bar.
I've no information as yet why top suspension mount clunks as its continually under load.

Thanks for that, yes they have checked everything, replaced anti roll bar rubbers, testing bar has been used even had it on shaker plates.
I will take a look at what you suggested.
Thanks very much

Did you give us a return on this issue, 2014, or was it with someone else. I'm doing brakes at mo and turning strut with track rod end disconnected gives odd noises up top.
I'm sure someone else on here did it this year. Do problems of compressing the spring ensue or just buy a second hand strut complete.

Previous jobs on replacing the top strut bearing or strut mount have given problems to Garages of compressing the spring to get it back in. I'm not sure if I'm missing something here but, if we were to fit the spring compressors with the strut loaded, that would then be the spring compressed so we could unbolt top mount, drop strut, replace mount and refit. Renewing spring well that's a different answer. Hope the weather holds good for me.
