2005 '55 2.8 Timing Belt Change..
 

I have done a search through the forum and can't seem to get a definitive answer on this...:confused:

Some say 60, others 100 and a few have changed either side of 80K...

Can anyone tell me when the belt needs to be changed?

Not sure if it being a 55 plate in 2005 makes any difference....:rolleyes:

Its not just mileage that's involved here, its also age. Your car is now 9 years old and that belt has not only done mileage but many engine stop starts which put much straining jerks through it as it starts. But if your prepared to take the chance it may go to 150,000miles before your engine goes BANG.......AGE is the answer....

Get on with it man, and change it. And any tensioners associated.

I just thought it may be a bit extravagant to change it now at 67K if they don't need doing till 100K...:rolleyes:

This is very thing I checked at my Chrysler dealer this week. Mine is a 2007 and is 100k/8yrs. They changed in 2007 and before that it was 60k and I can't remember if it was 5 or 6 years.

I'm going to take the advice and get it changed. Am I being a bit neurotic by researching timing belt and water pump brands...? Or are they all much the same?

OK, I've now bought a Gates Powergrip belt, tensioners and idlers along with a new water pump and seals.

Does anyone have an idea of how long it would take a mechanic to fit them?

Just trying to budget for this and other things at the minute and don't want t get fleeced by a garage...:rolleyes:

I'm no professional mechanic, but I'm pretty handy with my cars n motorbikes....

I just did the whole belts on my 2.5 CRD for the 2nd time, this time I also replaced the water pump. Took me about 6hrs start to finish with one cuppa tea !

Doing the water pump adds quite a bit of time because you have to definitely use the timing pins, remove the cam sprockets and timing backplate, which is a pain.

My 2.5 has 147,000 miles and I did the pump as a precaution.... the old one was fine tho... so I'd think twice about doing it at the first cambelt change.
