2005 T&C, electrical issue

My daughter hooked a brand new battery up backwards to her 2005 T&C. Only had it on for a second but smelled something burn. She had a progressive insurance "snapshot" in and that fried. The van starts and all the gauges work, but nothing works if you turn key to accessory, the power locks don't work, the heater controls don't work, the radio doesn't work. the power sliding doors don't work. the over head information unit doesn't work.

The windows all work, there are no blown fuses and no codes if I hook up a computer.

Before I start opening stuff up and taking it apart does anyone have any ideas?

Connecting the vehicle battery in reversed polarity is bad news, even for a few milliseconds. It's bad news for all the microprocessor boards. Whenever I've mentioned anything to do with battery, I always put the caveat "be careful about polarity".

You could be lucky (mostly). Check all the the fuses to see which are blown.

As you mentioned "smelled something burn", I'm not going to lie to you, this isn't good. Are you conversant with modern vehicle electrics? And microprocessor control systems? If not, you need to find a good, up to date vehicle electrician who can deal and fault-find/troubleshoot micro. systems.

Nonetheless, someone here may be able to advise further....

Leedsman.
