2006 Chrysler Town & Country with Castrol Syntec 0W-30 grade oil
Hello; Last oil change on my wife's 2006 Town & Country with 67,000 miles, I used Castrol Syntec 0W-30 grade supposedly because it is a high quality type of oil according to anoher website; also the same website states that 90% of engine wear occurs when it is cold so the thinner the oil the better (gets into the gears and system faster when cold)....well now the van sometimes makes a rattling noise and seems to get hotter than usual; please note I live in a very hot area (Monterrey, Mexico) where in summer reaches 104 F and winter is mild to 65 F. Did I screwed up ? Too thin of an oil ? Which oil should I been using ? I would like to stick into the syntetic oils instead of going to high mileage so which grade would you reccomend ?
Thanks much

Get RID OF THE 0/30......
My opinion of the usage of synthetic oils always starts an argument, so I'll mind my mouth on that one......Whatever you are comfortable with....Although I cant Imagine ANYONE being comfortable with an 85 dollar oil change on a Daily Driven Chrysler minivan....
As for Weight......If memory serves.....5w/20...But check your filler cap...It usually states a recommendation.....If not, I would safe bet 5/30 or higher.

Djinn-n-Tonic; thanks for the advise...the minivan is the only car we've got at home so want to have it in most perfect condition possible so thought the syntetic oils would better protect and minimize wear on the engine; the oil (6 qts.) plus filter (purolator) cost me $24 at Pep Boys, took the car to local Midas here in Monterrey, Mexico and charged me ~$13 bucks, total around ~$37 so it was not that bad of a deal.
Thx.

Well DJ, i'll start the arguement for you. Synthetic oil is a SHAM...just like K & N FILTERS, 2 AND 4 ELECTRODE SPARK PLUGS, Teflon Oil Filters, E-85 Fuel, Magnetic thingies clamped onto your fuel line, Autozone Diagnosing your CEL and....The EASTER BUNNY.
Have a nice day...........

It DOES exist. We had one come through the lane a while back. Of course we're not an HEV dealer. Good thing too I guess. We couldn't help this customer, however we did mostly stare at them wondering what it must be like to be 1 of 10 in the world who actually paid 48K for that thing...lol
It DOES exist
There was just a thread about these in the aspen section.... Absolutely No Tech support, An entire "Refrigerator box" full of personal Protective equipment, Traffic cones and markers for the RESTRICTED access.....It was A Joke.
Now.....I work about an Hour and a Half outside of New York City...So It is feasible that local residents may find it worthwhile to commute into NYC. This was their dream come true....A Hybrid SUV !!!!!!!!!! Until they figured out that the 48-55K pricetag didnt warrant the savings....In fact...They actually did WORSE than the average Highway mileage for a Comparable year Aspen with the MDS HEMI.
