2008 3.8L power upgrade
 

I have a 2008 TC 3.8L with all stock equipment (other than tires, trans cooler). It's running good, no issues other than some rattling when starter engaged. My mpg is running 16 city/ 21 hi way. I do tow 3000lb travel trailer with it, handles beautifully, pulls good, 10-11mp, even in mountains/hills with creative driving. Starting my mid life crisis soon so I want more power, you know, to stay ahead of the curve, be prepared for when the crisis hits.

I was wondering if anyone has done anything to their 3.8L to increase power (hp and/or torque) if so, what were they and was it worth it for the additional power? Anyone have suggestions to try? I'm not opposed to the mpg dropping 1 or 2 if power gains big enough.

Hi, There really isn't anything out there for the Minivan variants however there's a few products on the market for the Jeep JK 2007 through 2011. But most of the mods require the engine to be pulled and its unclear as how these would work in the minivan.

It is however the usual stuff, heads, cams, injectors, remap etc. There was also a 4.1 stroker kit around at one point. Best you're looking at without getting into a blower is 230 to 240 BHP and arounds 260ish torque.

Expect 2 to 2.5 grand for a build. However, also be prepared for a dead transmission. I've seen a couple of turbo'd vans and they had blown numerous driveshaft and both killed the autobox. The driveling in these vans are barely up to the task of the the stock engines. Add extra power and rubber and its a bad combination. I've snapped a driveshaft just by switching to an 18 inch wheel with a 245/45/18 tire. To much grip and bang!

Although I'd seriously looked into this a few years back. I'm one of THOSE people who cannot leave anything stock but decided against it. Just too much work and way too expensive for the return.

If I was really intent on more power, I'd be looking at an engine trans transplant from something newer and with more power, but that also involves a great deal of work.
