'96 Town & Country P0340 Code and problems

Greetings:

New to the forum. Hope I can figure this out. Anyway, I have a '96 T&C. About 6 months ago, we started having a problem where it would sometimes not start. I would crank, but never hit. It would take a few tries, but it would then start, and then throw the P0340 code. The problem was intermittent at first, but began to come more frequently. Finally we reached a point where it was nearly every time. Then it progressed to where it would die at idle on occasion. Each time, it would throw the P0340 code. Well, I replaced the Camshaft position sensor. It seemed to do fine for a day or so. Started every time. Ran fine. Then a day later, it died during idle and then wouldn't start. I tried and tried to get it to start but it wouldn't. I then unplugged the camshaft position sensor and plugged it back in and it started. But it still died at idle a bit later. Then it wouldn't start until I unplugged and replugged the camshaft position sensor. Each time though, it got harder and harder to start. Finally it reached the point where it wouldn't start regardless. I then replaced the crankshaft position sensor. That didn't help. Tried another camshaft sensor and it still didn't work. Have run the wires, and the continunity on the wires seems fine. No indication of a break in the wires.

What could my problem be? ECM? PCM? Something else? Please help me.

Thanks.

G

when it wont start make sure with the key on U have a 5v a 8v and a ground at the connector see which u are missing.

I will check that. But what will it tell me if one or all are missing?

Checked the voltage as you suggested. It is fine. Nothing wrong with the wiring as far as I can see. What now?

CHRYSLER TECH 11-10-2010 09:29 AM

do the same thing for the crank sensor what were the readings at each wire color

Well, I don't know what the exact readings are....I have the car in a shop. The mechanic tells me the numbers were right. He is saying it is the ECM. But I just want to make sure that is correct before I drop a bunch more money.

I cant help ya unless I know the numbers but scene u are having a shop do it u will just haft to ho on what they say this forum help the people doing the work most of the time not being a 3rd party wheel second guessing what a shop has looked at so go with what they say.
