ABS hydraulic Control Unit
Hey folks, just received some disturbing news from my local Chrysler dealer. It seems that my 2004 (non AWD) T&C's brake pedal to the floor is not the master cylinder like I had hoped. It is the ABS Hydraulic control unit, yikes. $900 clams.
Here's my question. Is this in any way a driveway job? I figure the bleeding alone is probably beyond my abilities (the dealer said it's an intricate process). I do most of the service on our cars, but ABS has me spooked. Also, does $900 sound right? Or do you think that I would I pay less at a local shop? Thanks all for reading. James. Local shops are generally cheaper than the dealer for repairs, just make sure it is a reputable garage, and not one of those Mister Bent Wrench places that spells mechanic with a K, Meckanic.
Seen that spelling a lot around the New York area. |
That units cost for the part is a lot of that quote. Have had 3 different vans with that system and have been fortunate enough to NOT have to replace it! The "bleed process requires a chrysler "star" grade scanner to bleed out the unit. SOME independent shops may have it but ASK first.
