ABS relay... comparable part?
 

Any idea where I could find a replacement for an ABS relay for a 1992 Town & Country? Mine sort of filled up with rain after the bracket broke, and shorted out. I am having a difficult time finding a replacement.

It has four blades. 30 85 and 86 are vertical, 87 is horizontal. 30 and 87 are large, 85 and 86 are small.

It also has a sheath (or skirt, or cover, or whatever else it might be called) that would cover the plug it connects to when it is attached.

I drew the diagram printed on the side of the relay, as well as a pin orientation diagram.

The part number was actually stamped on the bracket that holds the relay rather than on the relay itself, because they come as one unit. It has been replaced (had to get one from the dealer) and I have brakes again. #4687246

I don't have any direct experience with the ABS system on this vehicle, but the diagram you listed looks like a standard Bosch automotive relay. Bosch Automotive Relay . An auto parts store MIGHT carry these, but I can guarantee you than ANY car alarm store will have them. I've seen several cases where a manufacturer will buy these dirt cheap relays (less than $5.00 part), and re-brand them, and the dealer will charge ~$60 for this $5.00 part. They're just a mechanical relay, nothing high tech.

its 60 bucks because it is made only for that abs system, i had to fis somes ones messup today when thay though that by installing an aftermarket abs relay that would fix there crap well no after i did the recall the that old van and 60 more bucks later install what tehy took out and had some cracp pot hack install works well now. There are just some things that aftermarket mechanics should not even mess with.

I don't buy that the relay is "specially designed" for that abs system. More likely, the ABS system was designed to "tolerate" a relay. I concur that perhaps getting "any 'ol relay" without consideration of the current input required to activate it could be a lack of judgement. However, it's not a particularly sensitive electronic device. Also, if the old relay had a diode in it to prevent current from flowing the "wrong" direction, and the replacement relay did not, that could cause problems as well. You bring up a good point though -- that the abs system may not be the greatest place to start any experimentation.
