Airbag light staying on
 

Hi I have a chrysler grand voyager 3.3 Limited, lovely car had many of them but we have an airbag light that kept coming on when turning the steering wheel to the right but now its on all the time. My horn and cruise controls both work. Any ideas would be great otherwise its an expensive trip to the main deeler.

Likely the clockspring in spite of your working horn and cruise. If you have a 96 through 2000 you'll get a free replacement under a lifetime safety recall.

Is it easy to replace? I know that in previous times its been a sensor, this was on the same model but different car. I have a 2001

There are 175 different reasons an Airbag light can come on. Also there are almost as many ways that you can mess up and deploy an airbag in yoru face while doing it. Do you really just want to throw parts at it? Get the codes pulled.

Yes, but as stated there is a huge risk involved. Since you are out of the recall period you may be tempted to do this on your own. Don't. Take it to a shop. They will test the system and determine the cause. If indeed the clockspring is bad, they will handle it and you will see the sun rise the next day.

> The clockspring is a ribbon wire bundle coiled in a housing. As you turn the steering wheel this bundle extends and retracts out of and back into the housing. After time it wears and individual wires in the bundle can break. The fact this was happening as you turned the steering wheel points to the clockspring. The clockspring is mounted at the top of the steering column just behind the horn pad. The driver's airbag is in the horn pad. In order to change the clockspring you have to remove the airbag. That's where the danger lies.
