beeping when driver door open

I have noticed that my grand voyager beeps constantly when I open the driver the door (without key in the ignition). Is this because the door is open or because the car thinks the lights are on? Something is draining the battery and I am trying to narrow it down.

Could be the cabin lights on.
Check the dimmer switch, it may be in the top position. You just need to notch it down a click.

The dimmer switch is at the very bottom. No lights are on. It only bleeps when I open the drivers door.

Strange then.
From the manual, only four factors cuase the chime when driver's door is opened
-Key in ignition
-Park Lights on
-Headlights on
-Dimmer switch in top position

I would start any investigation at the light controls...

Ok. Thanks. Would this cause the battery to drain?

I'm no expert, but I wouldn't think so.
Even if interior lights are left on, they should turn off after 15mins.

Over what period does it drain? Hours? Over night?

It drains overnight. Tried a new battery and it drained within 2/3 days. The mileage stays on in the car when car is locked etc.

I'm assuming a 2.5 or 3.8 CRD [you don't state type] and I'm assuming the UK which is in a virtual heatwave [for the UK] and I'm assuming the battery you tried for 3 days was a toy size at 650amp or a useless modern Spiral. :D

- what sort of battery ?
- it's very fussy on 'lifestyle'
- and even fussier on battery type
- it likes old fashioned lead acid for low use / short runs
- and prefers 80/800 [ish] minimum

When you switch on the IGN what does the speedo needle do ?, does it sweep from zero to max and then back ? .. .. if it does your battery is almost certainly goosed, try an 85/800

It is currently a 540 battery. The one i put in was a 650 battery. The only 800 battery I can find in the uk for grand voyager is £250 from Chrysler! Bit steep for a battery!! At the minute the car is completely dead, no mileage on dash and the alarm was going off so had to disconnect the battery. When I try the ignition it goes tick tick tick tick, like it's trying to spark into life. I can get it to start using jump cables etc

- there are loads of sub £100 batteries in the UK with a crank of 800 and 75+ on the ah
- Alex, if you can start from jumps you've answered your own question, just spend the £80 delivered and solve your problem
- anything Chrysler [or anyone else recommended would be of no use till 'lifestyle' is accounted for
- click in the red in #8 and read M8
- Rodger in #10 fitted an Exide EB741 74 AH 680 CCA at £70, I think that's too small, but it worked for him
