Brake discs/pads, word of caution.

If changing front pads/discs on your GV, there are TWO different sizes, one with a disc dia. of 310mm, one with 280mm. Be sure you order the right ones by measuring the disc, save frustration and delay.

p.s. Mine cost £72:80, full front set, the lot. BMF Roundhay Rd. Leeds.

What make are they Leedsman?

I just checked EuroCarParts. They have Eicher for £50.48 or Pagid for £78.98

Can't remember the name as I left the boxes behind. They were a famous british make. maybe Ferodo. I over priced them, they were £70:82 inc. tax, got dealer discount. That's the price for two discs, and two pair brake pads.
Just found some faint writing on the pads, "Borg and Beck", discs the same. Old discs measured seven-eighths thick, new ones an inch and one eighth, so wear was a quarter inch.
As I'm familiar with Sod's law, I went back home and measured the discs when I found at counter there were two sizes for GV. They were the larger ones, and I would have plumped for the smaller. Out-thunk you this time Mr Sod...

"Borg and Beck", that's a name from the past :)

I notice my new rear discs that are still to be fitted with new shoes are 290mm O/D with shoe bore of 180mm I/D. Eicher are a good make and quality of finish is first class.

As far as I'm aware on my 2005 2.8 CRD 16" the :

- 302's are 01 to 07
- and the 310's are 08 onward

BTW Leedsman's right to flag this up I've just had a quick trawl on ebay and they are indeed selling both sizes as correct. They can not both be correct for a 2005 2.8 CRD on 16" wheels. I've just put new shoes / pads / small parts set / disks/ and S/H calipers on my GV.

3 part linked question for the group. Can the small disks, rims and 'rubbers' fitted to an 05 ? be uprated to 18" on our existing front wheel hub bearing ?

.1. - has anyone replaced the 16" standard alloys with 18" alloys [ 18x8.0J e35*5x114.3]
.2. - and 18"-TYRES onto the 9.5" WIDE rims with a 20 OFFSET
.3. - are the disks from an 08+ @ 310mm a straight swap out for our 05 302's ?

From what I've read I'm pretty sure the answer to 1. and 2. is yes but I don't know about 3. I doubt the 310 mm discs would fit with the 05 calipers.

Thanks for that Al, I should have added to the # 7 post that it was always the purpose to uprate the disks & callipers and that the rim thing was not my reason for doing it. It was indeed the spend on good braking not good looks. Its strange but I have not yet found for an example only why Brembo 310 disks are sold to the UK but 310 callipers are not, maybe the diff twixt 305 & 315 is an allowable parameter. I am going to do it but I need more info scavenging ready made larger pistons or 2 or even 4 pot plus higher coefficient of friction pad material upgrades, I don't want to start lug conversion moddin or any other bolt pattern changes.

You fitting your wings to your car or what. Or competition work. Or just trying to stay ahead of the boys in blue.
