Brake Light Issue

Hey All,

I have a 2011 Chrysler Town and Country Touring L. I bought it second hand. Ever since I got the van the brake lights were always using the blinker lights. I recently got a warning from the cops about how bright my brakes were and that they were yellow and not red. The previous owner did install a trailer hitch on it. I have looked all over the internet and have done a few things with no luck. Here is what I have done so far:
  • Checked the fuses
  • Removed the trailer light junction
  • Replaced Brake Light Switch
  • Checked wires on light assembly
  • Did a hard reset of the TIPM
  • Checked the connectors

The red tail lights come on when the lights are on, but when I press the brakes the turn signal lights come on instead. They do blink when I use the turn signal and the third brake light works. They are LED brake lights. Not sure what the issue is. Possibly a ground not working or something. Or possibly the LED computer board may be broken. Not sure. Anyone have any more ideas? The TIPM was replaced by previous owner.

Have you figured out the problem with this? We have the same van and just replace a burnt up fuse box. We started out with the front turn signals not working so our mechanic guy switched the wires that they say to switch and now we are having the exact same problem with the rear brakes/turn signal and was wondering if you figured this issue out?

No I have not figured out the issue yet.

LED is not oem for that year so an aftermarket tail light assembly is likely your cause

I did a lot of research and found that the LED red brake light is for this vehicle. It is possible that it's something the previous owner put on. But all the tail lights I saw online did have LED lights on them

The 3rd high mounted brake light is LED the ones in the side the main ones are normal bulbs. Do none of the brake lights work or just the side ones?

The 3rd light works (upper light), and the LED running lights work, but when pressing on the brake, the turn signal comes on.
