Brakes and clutch pedal ****les

Have a '99 UK spec 2.5TD with a few ****les. On the last 2 MOT's (annual test), the rear brake efficiency has only just passed. Have replaced rear shoes, springs, slave cylinders, bled brakes etc but to no avail.

The clutch pedal does not always fully return, as if the pedal return springs have lost some tension. These springs look quite robust, so could it be something else? I see there is no adjustment for the clutch cable as it is a sealed hydraulic system?

Any advice on these snags would be much appreciated.

Branded vs. Generic brake pads

I’ve bought top branded brake pads and paid the top brand prices but since I’ve bought new a couple of years ago I wasn’t sure if I really needed to keep spending lots of money on maintenance. There is this website discbrakepads.net which sells a more generic brand of brake pads and the prices aren’t too bad. Has anyone bought from them before? Quality any good?
