Cambelt/Timing Belt. Labour changing Time.
 

Hi Guys,
Seem to be hitting my head against brick wall here. Asked two garages for a quote for renewing my Timing Belt. As far as I could get its just under £200 for the belt and 3 wheels. But they can't find a Labour time unless they phone Chrysler. They don't want to do job I recon incase of difficulties. They think it might be a difficult job.
So whats the word out there regarding time and is there problems.
I've done everything else on car but haven't got the time and tools (that were also mentioned) for this job.

Hi, Update on this issue, money no object, Err no.
Right got a quote from a Chrysler main dealer which includes VAT.
Not a kit price note as you would buy it. Belt £148, One wheel £76, Other two wheels £119, all in with Labour £745. (4 hrs at £100 odds)
I can buy Belt Kit for £125 or £156. Locking tools Sealey VSE5056 £60 inc p&p.
Need to see my usual garage where I get my MOT's done, if he will do it for £450-£500 and I'll buy Tools. His price was £200 for kit but didn't have job time.

I can't find any info about times either. But looking at the procedure I'd say that 4hrs would be for someone who is familiar with the engine and procedure. If I were doing it I'd allow double that, but that's working on a driveway without a 2 post lift etc.
It might be worth getting a quote from a LDV dealer as the Maxus used the same VM engine, come to think of it so do London TX4 taxis. The 2.5 & 2.8 are pretty much the same engine

The taxi option is a good call, someone I'd met that was Voyager daft had started getting spares from a taxi firm in Glasgow as all their cabs had the VM engine in them.
They'd have all the gear and can probably do them in their sleep, or know someone that can.

My usual Garage finally came up with a Price and its getting done early next March.
£495 seems a bit steep but much cheeper than Chryslers quote.
