Change Oil alert

2008 Town and Country:

With under 5,000 Kilometers on the van (first oil change is supposed to be at 10,000 Kilometers) the change oil light alert flashes after starting the van. The alert is on the intrument cluster. I'm wondering if anyone has seen this? I'm going to speak to a service tech tomorrow to see what they say.

RE: Change Oil alert

My 08 LTD had the same thing. In fact it was about 3800 Kms and the Oil change message was on. I had to bring it in (well actually it was towed in...damn power steering failure) to the dealer anyway so I had the oil change done.

My theory is that the computer uses a matrix to calculate the oil change interval. Probably along the lines of number of times vehicle starts, engine idle time, number of kms driven, how hard the engine was working (full throttle blast offs or slow leisurely drives) etc...

I know on mine, we used the remote start ALOT (when it was -48c) and therefore the vehicle idled alot...
