Coil burnt

hey here's a new one on me.. hope not to everybody... replaced coil 8 months ago because of occasional misfire..new mopar..all good until today.. wife pulls into drive with rough running and engine light blinking... popped the hood , noticed a small lifted crack on coil housing above right front and checked plug wires ... first one i grabbed under that crack started smoking and sizzling until front of coil around crack began to burn and bubble up with the plastic coil housing melting.. wire looks fine.. strange.. shut off motor let it cool off and now no fire at all... thoughts ? thanks

Have you ever replaced the plug wires? Bad plug wires can kill a coil.

update.. coil was indeed bad.. burned up and split and popped ecu fuse also...or i think that was the fuse.. small 25 amp under hood my buddy noticed blown..said it was a player.. replaced both and back to normal for now... thinking maybe loose plug wire..?? they were replaced year ago with plugs and coil was replaced since then... whats weird is this is the third coil on this van since new... will watch and keep learning
