CV Joint/Axle damper weight
 

Hello,

I'm replacing my CV joint axle on my wifes 2001 Chrysler Town Country LI. The car hasantibrakes and it's FWD. I ordered a replacement axle from rockauto.com and it looks to be almost the exact replacement, however, it does not have a dampler weight attached to it. The axle on the car has one. It seem that this damper weight required... Shouldn't the new come with one attached or do I remove the original damper weight and put it on the newer in the same location?

thats what u get when u go aftermarket stuff ne number of thing can be different for each van. Does it even have the tone ring for the abs??? what about the same number of teeth. U will get what u pay for sorry.

The new part looks exactly like the original except for the damper weight, which now looks permantly attached to original. I wouldn't know about the actual teeth count on the splines until I remove the old part. I'm afraid to see what chrysler/mopar charge for this part...but I'll check:(

i ment the tone wheel for the ABS it should have a wheel with over sized splines where the speed sensor will read the speed of the wheel u said it had abs right??

I stopped at local part store and looked at another replacement for it and looked identical to the one I already purchased. I asked about the damper weight and they said that you should take the old off and put on new. I also called Chrysler for price on the part ....$350....argh...that's more than 6x what I paid for the online part.

If the part looks exactly the same before I get it off (i.e. tone ring teeth count and can get old damper off) and the splines look same after I get it off...I think I'm going to use the one I got from rockauto.

Hi,

i mean, it dosn´t matter to change the driveaxle w/o the damper weight. I´ve done this in 2005 at my 1996 3.8L Plymouth Grand Voyager. The new axle came w/o damper and now my vehicle runs for about 25.000 mls with no problems. Here is a link to a workshop "how to change a driveaxle".
