Diagnostics software

Is it possible (at a sensible cost) to get software and a lead/plug to do basic diagnostics on a home laptop? Would be nice to have this information - ideally to know that all is running OK.

I wonder 11-24-2008 12:38 PM

Hi
Unlikely this will work, Petrol models it will show the P codes in the trip display BUT yours is a diesel and so uses a Bosch controller and not seen this work on one yet. Please do try would love to know if it did work.

Nooooooooooooooooooo

Raised my hopes, and then cruelly dashed them. I'll try when I get the chance and let you know.

Looks like you are correct, Merlin (not that I'm surprised since you seem to know these things inside out) - assuming I got the sequence of turning on and off correct (I also tried the switching on while my finger was pressing the trip switch - which, surprise, surprise, reset the trip meter).

Would one of these work - they are very cheap.

By the way, when I was trying the test, I could hear a whirring at the back of the voyager - I assume this is the fuel pump working (at least when it's stationary).

Ah, just had a reply from these people - looks like Euro diesels didn't have to be OBD2 compliant until 2004, so this unit probably won't work, dammit.

Just got a workshop CD for the VOyager - looks like the model I have needs a DRBIII reader - these are about $8,000

Sounds like someone is making a lot of money out of these - I presume a Chrysler dealer is forced to buy these to be able to operate as I cannot see why it shouldn't be able to be run on a PC with a suitable cable. I know software is often expensive to recoup development costs as well as to make a profit, but the R&D for this program must have been done years ago when the system was developed. [:@]

Oh, well - looks as though I'll have to go to a Chrysler dealer on occasions to get it read.
