Dinging noise always when driver's door is open

You know how the car has a dinging noise if you open the driver's door with the key still in the ignition or when you turn the engine off with the headlights still on? Well now I have that noise whenever I open the driver's door WITHOUT the key in the ignition and the headlights are off. Close the door and the noise stops. Open it and it starts again. Is it easy to fix? I can live with it if it's an expensive repair.

I had that... If you squirt a bit of WD40 or similar in and around the ignition key slot and then work the key in and out a few times it seems to clear it. If I recall from looking at a similar issue on my old Grand Cherokee, there is a switch assembly on the ignition switch barrel that fires up the 'ding' circuit if it is activated when the door is opened (ie: when the key is still in). It is likely that this has got stuck in the "key is inserted" position and some WD40 might unstick it.

Hope that helps.

Cheers

GL.
