EVIC compass: busted, or I am too dumb to figure it out?

I just purchased a 2008 T&C and I love it. However, my EVIC is not displaying the compass. Instead I see

-- 40o

(two dashes, and the outside temperature.) The steering-wheel-mounted buttons do seem to work - e.g. I can use the left button to get to things, and the right one to change them - EXCEPT when I try to change the compass variance, the right button doesn't work. The variance is stuck on 1. When the display said

COMPASS
CALIBRATE
>YES

I pushed the right > button, which put it back to the -- 40o display. I drove in a slow 365o circle several time, but it didn't change.

FWIW, the direction DID display during the test drive; it went away at some point while I was playing with the buttons. Any ideas how to fix this?

Open the hood, remove BOTH battery terminals.....Touch them together for 10 seconds, and then reconnect the battery.

Your compass has a "Brain" which is linked to the rest of the Brains in the car via a communication network, or BUSS. Any abnormality on the network will disable the "Brains, either individually or collectively. If restoring the battery doesnt clear the buss abnormality, Then further diagnosis will be required.

Just a fuse!

Turns out it was just a fuse. Easily fixed!
