Front blower not working - it's NOT the resistor

Hi,

I have a '03 Town & Country. The front blower recently stopped working. I have replaced the resistor and it was not that. Hooking up the blower directly to a power source makes it work.

I see this is a pretty common issue but most of the time it's the resistor.

What else would cause this BESIDES the blower itself and the resistor?

do u get a ground when u turn on the blower motor at the motor or the resistor?
do u have auto temp controls or manual controls?

I'm pretty sure it's manual controls. I'm not 100% sure what automatic controls are (I know must be dumb question).

There are two sliding knobs, goes from blue to red, one for passenger, one for driver.

And the back has it's own controls.

But, something strange has happened.... it's started working.

The wife figured out that by making sure the power was OFF on the fan/AC before starting the van, then turning it on the front blower worked. And as long as you turn off the fan before turning off the engine, it will come back on again after starting again then turning on fan.

We did that for 2 days, then I started experimenting again and now the front blower works 100% of the time out of dozens and dozens attempts, no matter whether the power was on or off during startup of the engine.

Very frustrating... glad at the same time it's working now that we have near 100 deg temps in our area, but I just hope it doesn't decide to stop working again, especially since I didn't do anything else to actually 'fix' it.

I had one that you had to tap under the glove box to make it work. I finally got tired of that and climbed under there and cleaned the ground. Works great now.
