Fuel filter location and change
 

Hi,

Im going to change the fuel filter on my 04 2.8 crd GV as im not sure if im getting the bet fuel consumption and i believe this can effect it???? I've been told on my model its up by the tank but not looked yet. Is there any step by step guides on here or can any one give me some tips as this is my firstfuel filter change any do or donts??

The 03 is the only model year to have a fuel filter but im not sure if this replies to this 2.5 /2.8 engines.

Mines was an element type, encased in a plastic holder.

But searching ebay to get the link, I came across this.

Which I'd say is more likely on your 2004 2.8. The link/item description tells you where to look for it.

Only thing I'd suggest is to fill the replacement up with diesel before fitting to assist with starting the car again.

I have a 54 plate 2.8.
Mine is by the fuel tank. Pretty quick to replace, just a bit messy!

- the Yanks don't do diesel but their market is gobal
- Russia / India / South Africa have diesel like sewage soup and need a filter
- not all countries have clean fuel supply, all diesels need a capable filter
- all diesel needs both a filter & a water separator

If yours is the new type "spin on" filter mounted on the front of the engine as per QintecQs photo from Ebay then you have to manually bleed the system. Quite easy. Open the bleed nipple on the top left of the housing (use some plastic pipe if you dont want diesel to go everywhere) and pump the primer pump (the dome shaped plunger) on the right of the housing until diesel and no air comes out (usually about a cupfull) then close the nipple.

I understand the earlier types (filter near the fuel tank) can be primed just by turning the ignition on, but I'm not sure about this. You definately need to prime the later types, as per above or the engine wont start.
