I am posting here as I saw a post (15 years old) on another site and I had the exactly the same symptoms, and found the cause (in my case). The original poster posted:

What's wrong with my Chrysler Grand Voyager's gearbox?
I have a 2007 Chrysler Grand Voyager 2.8CRD auto which is stuck in second gear. When starting up, either none of the gear selector positions on the display is highlighted, or they all are highlighted. Other symptoms are that the speedo doesn't work, two red lights are displayed on the reversing sensor display and the vehicle only operates in second gear. This happened a few times and could be reset by stopping, waiting and restarting. I wonder if you have any ideas?

In my case it was as simple as the battery connection being loose. I notice one of the relays under the hood/bonnet clicking frantically and that led me to check the battery connections......+'ve was loose, and tightening it seems to have resolved the issue. Hope this helps others.
