Gearbox/transmission Chrysler Voyager IV 2.8CRD

I have a Chrysler Voyager 2.8 CRD, 2007, gone 115k km/about 70k miles.

I had been driving for a few hours and stopped at an intersection. When I went to continue, the car wouldn't move. In my country, Norway, Chrysler no longer has an importer and brand workshop, so I used the first and best workshop, who said there must be something mechanically wrong with the gearbox, but they could not say for sure. They checked but found no loose bits of metal in the oil. They offered me an overhauled gearbox, and including labor it would come to about $5000.

The only problem I had with the transmission previously was that the shift lever was slow/resisted shifting.

I now know there have been some problems with the transmissions on these cars.

What could be wrong with the gearbox? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Alternatively, has an improved gearbox been made for these cars? As I understand it, they are undersized for the torque of the diesel engine in the car.

Thanks.
