GV. handbrake tip.
 

If you don't use your GV handbrake much with it being an automatic vehicle, the auto-adjust clutch can lose grip on the square section spring. So when you put on the handbrake it could go all the way to the top.
It is only necessary to put on the handbrake two or three times to take up the slack, so using fewer "clicks". The first pull starts the auto-adjust system.

Mine is a manual and the handbrake travels all the way to the top before it grips. I take it this auto adjust in only on autos :( I wish there was a way of repair that didnt involve going under the car

As far as I know, all the GVs have the same autoadjust handbrake. and it adjusts for slack in the cable. But I can't see it adjusting the brake shoes inside the drums. Those are the old-fashioned type where you put a screwdriver through a slot in the brake back plate and work it up or down to put the shoes hard "on", then back it off until the drum is just free. Chrysler's auto-just handbrake system has been around a long time.
If you've not serviced the handbrake system in a long while, carry out an inspection, clean out and adjust the drum/shoe assy. Or of course pay a mechanic to do it.

- engine running
- footbrake [servo] applied hard
- grab handbrake, button permanently in, 6 to 10 hard pulls one after the other
- let go of handbrake in the off position
- release foot from the footbrake
- switch engine off, make coffee, read newspaper, handbrake is auto-adjusted
