Heat Spots On Rear Rotors
 

Vehicle is a 2010 Chrysler Town and Country and was purchased new. Now has 41000km on it or roughly 25000 miles.

About a month ago or maybe even less I had same steering wheel vibration and pulsing and thought there was a brake problem so I took it in and the dealership told me the rear needed new rotors.

Now after a month or even less I am getting the same shaking steering wheel and pulsing. I have now taken it to a different dealership and the tell me that the front needs new rotors and that the rear rotors look "newer" and they have heat spots.

I have read what heat spots are and the gentleman mentioned something about the fact if you put new rotors on that the calipers should be taken apart and checked and greased. Is this true? I am very easy on the breaks, I don't ride them or break excessively.

What would cause heat spots on the rear rotors after suce a short period of time? Is this a bad job done by the first dealership, did they not remove and grease, etc the calipers.

Any thoughts, thank you very much.

Thanks for the link to that thread. Just to add some info, I checked the invoice and the rear rotors and pads were replaced about 2 months ago and 7000km or 4350 miles ago. So that is very fast for rear rotors to get heat spots due to calipers not releasing properly. Probably a crappy job done by them, no lubrication, checking of pivot points.

The modern brake has a adjuster that keeps the shoe always adjusted. But the brake drum can not handle the heat so it spots or welds a hot spot . If they make a manual adjusting kit put that in if not you will have to replace the drums or change over to a disc system but big money to do that
