Help needed again
Hi all. I have a 2009 t/c. I'm experiencing a intermittent shimmy in the front end. Can come on at any speed. Hard at time's and light at others. Seemingly gets worse the longer it's driven. Put new pads and rotors on the front less then 15,000 miles ago. Vans just started doing this about a month ago. Any help would be appreciated. We are getting ready for vacation and need this thing fixed. Also took it to my mechanic and he drove it but it wouldn't do it. Please help. David

Shimmy when doing it braking or what...This shimmy thing tome relates to Captain T. Kirk, William Shatner, in an Aeroplane spoof film where he talks about Shimmies, creeks, bumps in the night. Then he stands aside a sliding door and goes shooosh and it opens.

Not when braking just sometimes when driving at different speeds not braking.

Only things I can think of is tyre balance and worn ball joint.

Years ago I had a Ford Anglia (with the rake-back rear window) and they were notorious for shimmying steering. One particular road did it, and the only way to stop it was to stop the car.
Turned out it was caused by worn steering joints (12 of them) and the negative caster design of the steering to make the steering easier. You need to stress every steering joint with a suitable crowbar and replace any suspicious ones, much like Ed. in "Wheeler-Dealers" on tv. Leedsman. |
Thanks for the reptiles. Someone mentioned that it might be the brake master cylinder what do y'all think? David
